Health Disparities Research &
Evaluation
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland funded a study to survey more than 500 Central residents about health issues, specifically looking at obstacles facing residents with diabetes. But the survey included more general questions, such as when was the last time they saw a doctor and what issues prevented them from getting to their appointments.
Lack of transportation was the number one obstacle for the residents who responded. The survey, which was conducted in 2009, showed that a small percentage of the residents had seen their doctors that year, with the vast majority last seeing a doctor in 2008. Of those residents with diabetes, the majority said the hardest thing was following the diet. The ability to purchase the medication came in second.
