Adrienne Hatten, MNO, Joins the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland as Program Officer for Education
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland welcomed Adriennie Hatten as Program Officer for Education. With an extensive background in social service and education, in particular, Ms. Hatten will continue the Foundation’s community engagement efforts in Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood to further understand its educational needs and assets. This community input will guide the Foundation as it seeks to develop effective partnerships and align future investments with community health and education needs.

Prior to joining the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, Ms. Hatten worked as Prevention Educator for Golden Ciphers in Cleveland where she developed a tutoring program for 12- to 18-year-old juvenile offenders. She has also worked since 2005 as a Graduate Assistant in Cleveland State University’s Curriculum & Foundations Department. In this role she assisted in teaching a course in the history of education and collected data for national and local grants to the university.

Ms. Hatten had formerly worked as a Program Developer for Koinonia Homes, Inc. in Independence, OH, a nonprofit organization providing residential and vocational services to individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. She designed and implemented the expansion of the Community Services Division to include new sites, staff and consumers.

Prior to that, Ms. Hatten served the Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland as Senior Planner in the Department of Planning and Evaluation, leading the proposal development team for a multi-million dollar federal grant for the HeadStart program. From 1999 to 2003, Ms. Hatten was the Cleveland Municipal School District’s Performance Manager in its Office of Research, Evaluation & Assessment. In this capacity, she successfully prepared for the Continuous Improvement audit by the Ohio Department of Education School Improvement Review team.

Ms. Hatten’s understanding of how non-profits and government respond to the needs of low-income and underserved Cleveland residents was furthered by her work as a Planning Associate in the Office of Planning and Evaluation of Catholic Charities Services Corporation and as a Social Services Supervisor in the Case Review Unit of the Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). She began this work in 1990 as a Licensed Social Worker in the DCFS Ongoing and Intake Departments.

A magna cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, Ms. Hatten is pursuing her doctorate in urban education from Cleveland State University. She also holds a Masters degree in non-profit organizational management from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. She currently resides in Solon with her son, Jovan.

ABOUT THE SISTERS OF CHARITY FOUNDATION OF CLEVELAND
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland serves as a grantmaker, collaborator and advocate for those most in need. In 2006, the Sisters of Charity Foundation joined with the Saint Ann Foundation — America’s first “healthcare conversion” foundation — to form a single organization. The combined Foundation has awarded more than $54 million in grants through 2007.

Current funding priorities for the Sisters of Charity Foundation across Cuyahoga County include initiatives to reduce chronic homelessness through permanent supportive housing and address disparities in health by improving health literacy.

The Foundation also works to build awareness of the many contributions of Catholic women religious and to support their vital health and human service ministries. In addition, local efforts responding to basic human needs such as food or clothing are eligible for the annual Good Samaritan grant program.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland was established by the Sisters of Charity Health System in 1996 through sale proceeds involving St. Vincent Charity Hospital, which has been located in Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood for more than 145 years.

The Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine established the Saint Ann Foundation in 1973 with funds from the sale of Saint Ann Hospital which served Cleveland women and children for 100 years.
