The Ursuline Piazza Program
 
In his late 50's, Tim became involved with drugs, which led to losing his job, insurance, house, credit, and his health.  He was hospitalized and discharged to the HIV-wing at Cleveland's St. Augustine Manor.
 
Tim soon became active with the Ursuline Piazza Program that serves the Manor's residents, former residents and caregivers.  Services include counseling, social work, transportation, a food pantry and educational progamming. This Sister-founded, Sister-sponsored effort, in collaboration with Catholic Charities and the St. Augustine Manor staff, fills a gap in the Manor's services, as the people it serves who live with HIV are generally younger than the majority of Manor residents.  
 
The program taught Tim about his virus, and he became more responsible in his medical care. Piazza counselors helped him enroll in programs for aid with housing and nutrition.  After being accepted for disability assistance, he was able to move into his own apartment.  Tim recently reported that he is close to being undetectable, meaning his meds are working and his virus is being suppressed.  Best of all, he is happy!
