Aiming at a significant contributor to health disparities, the Foundation
commenced an initiative in 2007 to improve health literacy in Cuyahoga
County.
The most comprehensive online resource for those interested in this issue
is continually updated by World Education: the Health Literacy Wiki
sponsored by the Adult Literacy Education Wiki and moderated by Julie
McKinney, Health Literacy topic area leader. Ms. McKinney may be reached at

• Institute for Healthcare Advancement — 7th Annual Health
Literacy Conference “Health Literacy in Primary Care: Best
Practices and Skill Building”
Scheduled keynote speaker: Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS,
who served as U.S. Surgeon General from 2002 to 2006 tops two days of
information, clinical tips, and skill-building sessions. For those new to health
literacy, a free, one-hour pre-conference session, “Health Literacy 101” will be
held on Wednesday night, April 30th.

• National Town Hall Meeting – Approaches for Improving Health
Literacy
Co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the
Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH). The invitation-only event will explore

Midwest.
