Health Eating - Active Living
 
The Central Neighborhood is faced with significant challenges. The social fabric of the Central neighborhood consists primarily of low-income residents with formal social networks that range from block clubs to resident councils. An effort to improve conditions within this neighborhood, particularly health disparities with programs and services promoting healthy eating and active living.  
 
 
 
 
Evaluation of the Cuyahoga County Housing First Initiative
Phase I
The Cuyahoga County Housing First Initiative, launched in 2002, represents an ambitious community-wide strategy in Cleveland and surrounding Cuyahoga County to develop 1,000 units of permanent housing with services for some of Cuyahoga County's most vulnerable residents - disabled persons who have experienced extended periods of homelessness.With leadership from Enterprise Community Partners, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland and city and county official and others, significant progress has been made toward this goal. Women Religious in a Changing Urban Landscape: The Work of Catholic Sisters in Metropolitan Cleveland 

Women religious play a vital role in many communities in addressing the needs of the poor, neglected, and vulnerable members of society. In the history of northeast Ohio, Catholic nuns have been instrumental in the arenas of education, outreach and advocacy. In high poverty cities such as Cleveland, women religious continue to provide essential services, supports, and spiritual guidance in many venues. The experience in Cleveland is relevant to cities with an urban core where the population has shifted to suburban areas, leaving inner-city churches with declining membership and support. Read the full report

What we learned after holding meetings to talk with residents, service providers and others in 2008 and 2009 on the state of the Central Neighborhood and its areas of need, particularly in terms of education and health disparities.
 
 

  
Hope in Action: 2007-2012 Strategic Direction
The Board and staff of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland undertook a planning process to craft a new strategic plan which guides grantmaking, evaluation, convenings and collaborations over a five-year period. How do we describe our vision for the future? It is, quite simply, Hope in Action.
